Abstract

The current research aimed to reveal one of the supporting reasons for the exacerbation of depression among youth and to study their cases. The research attempted to answer the following questions:

What is the level of depression among a sample of depressed youth?

What is the role of parents in the emergence of depression?

To answer the research questions and test the hypotheses, the researcher employed a clinical approach to study one case in the adulthood stage. To gather information, the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale, and the Beck Depression Inventory were used. Subsequently, detailed clinical and psychological reports were prepared, and a comprehensive diagnosis was created based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual.

The results of the research showed that children who are treated well by their parents are more psychologically and socially adjusted, and they exhibit better traits of masculinity and femininity compared to those who are treated poorly and subjected to harshness, neglect, or excessive pampering.

The healthy psychological and social development of children is associated with several factors that we outline as follows:

  1. Psychological and social adjustment.
  2. Psychological and social inclinations and interests and satisfying them properly.
  3. A sense of security, reassurance, love, and affection.
  4. Family guidance and counseling.
