Assertive Behavior and Its Relationship to Self-Efficacy among Students of the Open Educational College - Nineveh Center

Abstract

The current study aims to identify the level of assertive behavior and the level of self-efficacy among students of the Open Educational College - Nineveh Center and to identify the differences in the level of assertive behavior and the level of self-efficacy according to the gender variable, and to identify the relationship between these two variables. The study sample consisted of 120 male and female students from the Open Educational College/ Nineveh Center. The researcher relied on the scale (Hansali, 2014) to measure assertive behavior and the scale (Alwan, 2014) to measure self-efficacy, after verifying their external validity by presenting the two scales to a number of experts and specialists in the fields of psychology and education. As for reliability, it was calculated using the test and retest method, where the reliability for the assertive behavior scale reached (.83) and (.87) for the self-efficacy scale. Statistical methods were used (Pearson’s correlation coefficient, T-test for one sample, T-test for two independent samples), and the results of the study revealed that the sample members had a good level of assertive behavior, as well as a good level of self-efficacy, and no differences appeared in the level of the study variables (assertive behavior and self-efficacy) according to the gender variables, with a positive correlation between assertive behavior and self-efficacy. In light of the results, the researcher presented a number of recommendations and proposals.
