Abstract

Violence is an important social phenomenon in all its forms, especially domestic violence, which dominates Arab society. In this research, we try to shed light on violence in all its forms in the novel (The Darkness of Memory) by the Saudi novelist Atheer Abdullah Al-Nashmi, and to study and present the basic concerns and problems that have emerged in society. It conveyed the social reality to the recipient, but from the point of view of the writer, and through his characters and his use of events as he saw it, and this role, i.e. power or what is termed violence, was not only for the man, but women also played a role in it, as they translated violence into the language of narrative dialogue for the recipient to understand. The research was divided according to what suits the topic and its circumstances, as the researcher relied on the descriptive and analytical method. The first section shed light on the definition of violence from a linguistic and terminological standpoint, then the researcher looked at the meaning of violence according to social scientists due to the necessity of mentioning it. The second section shed light on the types of violence, then looked at the most important texts that embody the types of violence in the novel.
